CIA Head Panetta, ‘the Next Pearl Harbor

During the Defense Secretary nominee confirmation hearing on Capital Hill (Thursday, June 9, 2011), CIA Chief Leon Panetta said “The Next Pearl Harbor that we face could well be a cyber Attack” and that “We are no longer in the cold war, more like the blizzard war.”  There has been an increase by the Obama Administration stressing the dangers of a cyber attack. Just do a search on any search engine and you will get many hits and articles. One thing to keep in mind is the U.S. is teetering on economic collapse. A cyber attack could very well be a tactic on the drawing board to further the limitations of free speech on the internet, as well as provide a target of blame for the on-going economic crisis the President would like to keep covered up, by pinning it on such an attack.
One important element that is buried, while people focus on their concerns for internet freedom, is the growing militarization of space. A cyber-war or attack could very well be a legitimate concern of the Pentagon (more on this below).
