Making his debut with the Texas Rangers on June 20, 1991, he became the youngest person to catch in a major league game that season at 19 years of age.[8] He immediately established himself as an excellent hitter who was also proficient in throwing out would-be base-stealers. No other catcher in the past 35 years has been as successful at this aspect of the game, with Rodríguez throwing out 48% of attempted basestealers through May 2006.[9] He started many of the Rangers games at the end of the season, including 81 of the last 102. Rodríguez became the youngest player in the history of the Texas Rangers to hit a home run, on August 30, 1991, facing the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Storm Davis. He was named to the Major League Baseball (MLB) Rookie All-Star team by both Topps and Baseball America and finished in fourth place in the AL Rookie of the Year voting. He also placed first in throwing out runners, catching 48.6 percent of runners attempting to steal.[10]

edit] Minor leaguesRodríguez made his professional debut in 1989 at the age of 17 as catcher for the Gastonia Rangers of the South Atlantic League. In his first game, he had three hits in three at bats (3-for-3) against Spartanburg. Playing in the Florida State League in 1990, Rodríguez was selected the best catcher in the league and named to the All-Star team. He placed 15th in the league in batting at .287, and led his team in runs batted in, with 55. He also played in the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League (LBPPR) over the offseason.[6]
At the beginning of the 1991 season, Rodriguez played 50 games with the Tulsa Drillers, a AA team, where he batted .274 and made 175 at-bats. He was considered the number one prospect of the Texas League. Before the middle of the season, he was called up to the Texas Rangers, thus bypassing AAA.[7]

Rodríguez was born in Manati, Puerto Rico, and raised in Vega Baja. His father, Juan, worked for a U.S.-based construction company, and his mother, Eva Torres, was an elementary school teacher.[3] Iván's first job involved delivering flyers in the shopping malls in Puerto Rico.[4]
He learned baseball at an early age, his biggest rival being Juan González, who he often played against in his youth.[3] As a Little League player, he moved from pitcher to catcher because his father, who was also his coach, thought he was throwing too hard and scaring opposing players with his pitches.[5] Rodríguez attended Lino Padron Rivera High School, where he was discovered by scout Luis Rosa. Rosa reported that "he showed leadership at 16 that I’d seen in few kids. He knew where he was going."[3] Rodríguez signed a contract with the Texas Rangers in July 1988, at the age of 16, and began his professional baseball career.[3] He was traded back to the Texas Rangers on August 18, 2009.

Tesco's in Batley put signs on the shelves of promotions that haven't started, deceiving people into thinking they are saving when they aren't. If questioned about it at the checkout they simply say 'it doesn't start until tomorrow. They have a night shift on so why can't that be monitored and put on when it should be. Trotz says Gill is out

Will Hal Gill play tonight or won’t he? That is the question. Predators Coach Barry Trotz said he didn’t “expect” Gill to play. When asked if Gill was out, Trotz said, “yes.”
When talking to Gill, he sounded like a player who could enter the lineup if needed. The big defenseman who has missed every game this series with a “lower body” injury skated this morning. He did skate for a long time, which would indicate he is out. Still, with Gill, all he needs to do is play maybe 10 minutes or so — more than Ryan Ellis or Jack Hillen have played in games so far this postseason — in order to be effective. Gill has taken part in all team practices and skates this week.

Detroit Red Wings @ Nashville Predators Game 5 Preview: Time For A Knockout
by The Nashville Predators have the chance to finish off the Detroit Red Wings tonight in Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals at Bridgestone Arena, in what will prove to be a test of their ability to finish off an opponent. The lone opportunity they've had previously in the playoffs was Game 6 against Anaheim, which they won 4-2. This Red Wings team is much more dangerous than that Ducks squad, however, so the Preds will have their hands full against an experienced opponent which has too much pride to simply fold up the tents and call it a season.

Mike Babcock has been quoted as saying that defensively, the Red Wings are focusing on the wingers more than the centers, so how exactly is Detroit matching up against the Preds? Let's take a look at how they've been doling out the ice time...
The following table (underlying data from TimeOnIce.com) illustrates what portion of 5-on-5 ice time is being spent on the following individual matchups, split out by games in Nashville vs. Detroit. For example, in the two games in Nashville, Martin Erat has had to face Pavel Datsyuk in 33.1% of his (Erat's) 5-on-5 ice time, but only 61.6% for the games in Detroit:
There are some interesting trends which show how these coaches are using the last change to get the matchups they want. Granted, there's a bit of noise in here due to availability, as a player who the coach may wants to throw out there in 5-on-5 may just have finished a PP/PK shift and needs a breather, but basically, Barry Trotz got the Erat/Fisher/SK74 line matched up with Zetterberg's, while in Detroit, Babcock has matched them up against Datsyuk. Conversely, the Radulov/AK46 tandem faced Datsyuk in Nashville, but Zetterberg in Detroit.
So if the Fisher line falls silent offensively again tonight, just keep in mind who they're out there against - if both the Fisher and Datsyuk lines are kept off the scoreboard, that's a win for Nashville.
It's worth noting that we haven't heard such griping from Colin Wilson.

The Wings feel confident in their gameplan, knowing that they're out-shooting the Preds consistently. That's not, however, due to them just tossing lobs at the net from the outside, per Mike Babcock:"I hear (team broadcaster) Mickey Redmond say, ‘They're keeping them on the outside.' So the good thing about that is that I watched the game, and watched it on the computer and then ‘NHL On the Fly' played it again,'' Babcock said. "So I watched it three times to see if that's the truth, to see if we're never getting to the net, we're never getting on the inside, and all I can do is go off what I see and I don't think that's the truth.''According to that article, the Red Wings stuck with their same lines & D pairings in practice at Joe Louis Arena yesterday:

One interesting bit of news was the story filed by Josh Cooper, about how Jordin Tootoo was complaining about being scratched from several of these games:"I was told that my play towards the end of the season was awful and they got to go with the guys that are going (well). Inconsistency I guess," Tootoo said. "I think the only way to get out of that slump is to play games. ... You can practice all you want, but at the end of the day it's about playing the games and showing up and doing the right things and just being a professional about it."I guess he forgot the punch to the back of Zetterberg's head early in the 2nd period of Game 3, a completely unnecessary penalty when the team was clinging to a 1-0 lead. I think that qualifies as "awful". Jordin has to realize that with increased talent and depth up front, just because he's been around here a long time, he's not entitled to a spot in the lineup.
It's worth noting that we haven't heard such griping from Colin Wilson.

This lineup is interesting for a number of reasons:- Moving Gabriel Bourque up alongside Radulov brings a lot of speed to that line, which might help spring Rads free more often.

- I'm still not getting the Yip fascination, personally.
