“The resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov from 21 March 2012, according to which the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) was allocated US $30m (85.7m TMT) of government funds, further attests to this,” said Dzhemshid Dzhelilov, sales manager of the country's largest private furniture factory, Aybolek.
Those funds, he said, will assist entrepreneurs start businesses or expand existing ones.
The UIET, established four years ago, has more than 2,000 members who represent private business.
Alexander Dadayev, re-elected chairman of the UIET, noted at his re-inauguration in March that in the past three years a regulation to provide concessional lending to local businesses passed; a law on state support of small and medium-sized businesses took effect; a joint-stock commercial bank opened to serve businesses, and the Rysgal business newspaper began publication.
But more needs to be done.
